London isn’t known for its food. In fact, eating out usually consists of fish and chips. Well if seafood isn’t your fancy, there are plenty of restaurants across London that have the ordinary food you crave.

Pizza Express – Who doesn’t miss pizza? Get your classic Italian Napoli or Romana style pizza at this London favorite. Pizzas include the Il Padrino, Diavolo, Fiorentina, and the classic Margherita. When you’re craving pizza, this is one place to fulfill your hunger. You won’t have to deal with fish & chips here.

Wagamama – Noodles anyone? If you’re used to a variety of food in NYC, then swing by this popular pan-asian inspired noodle chain. When the menu includes side dishes like asparagus and shiitake mushroom gyoza and entrees include teriyaki chicken donburi, it’s a recommended chain in the city. How do you know? You’re bound to wait a bit.

Hummus Bros – Chickpeas, fava beans, and mushrooms are just some of the toppings for your hummus, served with pita bread. Try a side of falafel salad or tabouleh. The teas and smoothies are an exotic addition to this Mediterranean meal. End your meal with baklava or your basic brownie. Stop by the Soho or Holburn location because it’s a place you wouldn’t want to miss.

Sticky Fingers – In a place called “Sticky Fingers,” you’d assume you were in the south– not in Kensington, London, one of the nicest neighborhoods in the city. My run in at this American hole-in the wall over-priced restaurant was on the Fourth of July the summer I lived in England.  For 22 £, we got a 3-course meal- from potato skins to wings to sirloin steak to burgers to mom’s apple pie. While the food is as American as it can get, it’s not a place you have to try while visiting. But if you’re living there, it’s definitely somewhere to stop by if you miss home.

Castle – Ready for a taste of London? Stop by a pub, where the cider is flowing and fish & chips is actually on the menu. No, it’s not the most popular pub in town –  but it’s a local favorite, and was one of my favorites while living near Farringdon. Plus, you’ll be sure you meet some of the locals while grabbing a bite or a beer. And if it’s summer, try a jug of Pimm’s, a favorite warm weathered beverage.
